A carefully completed application for admission should be submitted to the Indiana Wesleyan University Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program. Admission to the MSAT program is based on qualifications and space availability. This is a competitive program and application alone does not guarantee admittance. Admission is awarded without regard to gender, race, color, age, religion, national origin, or handicap.
Students must have completed the following courses with a grade of B or better from a regionally accredited college or university to be considered for the MSAT program. These courses provide a foundation for success in professional level graduate work in the MSAT program. The MSAT Program Director will make the final decision as to the compatibility of each course to meet curricular standards.
Indiana Wesleyan University offers clinical experience in the following athletic areas:
Our students may also obtain clinical hours under the supervision of a certified athletic trainer at a local high school in the Grant County, Indiana, area.
Our students have the opportunity to work with neighboring university sports programs. This unique experience can give the student an appreciation for the differences in how universities deliver athletic training services.
Our students have the opportunity to gain general medical experience through the IWU Health Center and Bridges to Health, Inc. This experience presents a wide range of potential conditions and illnesses that may not be experienced or identified in traditional athletic training settings.
During their last semester in the program, athletic training students will have their off-campus immersive clinical experience. Clinical education experience will be the focus of the semester, with AT Courses happening online. Each student will have the opportunity to make recommendations of potential sites of Preceptors to the Clinical Education Coordinator. Recommendations made early provide the greatest chance for necessary documentation to be collected by the program.
Financial aid (graduate-level student loans) is available for this program. Please contact us for more information so we can help you pursue your passion for serving others through a career in Athletic Training.
The Athletic Training Strategic Alliance, which includes the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), decided in 2015 that changing the Athletic Training degree level to a master's degree (MSAT) would be in the best interest of the profession to ensure a vital place for Athletic Trainers in the evolving health care arena. Therefore, beginning in 2022, there will be no more undergraduate programs for Athletic Training since a master's degree will be required to become certified.
The certification process for Athletic Training is changing. A master's degree (MSAT) is now required to be certified. Prerequisite courses must be completed.
Pre-requisites needed:
Students are required to have a grade of "B" or better in these pre-requisite courses.
Earning a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Indiana Wesleyan University prepares students to enter into the workforce in a variety of settings.
