Studio Arts: The studio arts program is a fusion of making art, conceptual thinking and entrepreneurial training. You will explore how to create visible manifestations of what you see, think, imagine or feel. Studio Arts is a way of influencing culture and making the world a better place for others through what you create. You will learn from practicing artists who are devoted Christ followers and experts in blurring the lines between their work and faith. Your program of studies includes drawing, design, color theory and the choice of concentrations in ceramics, painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpture. You will also study art theory and art history as a way of understanding more deeply how art making is changing and influencing culture. We also have individual 10’ x 12’ private studio spaces available for all studio majors.
Career Options: A Studio Arts major qualifies you to pursue graduate study in the visual arts in order to become a professional artist. It also serves as a basis for a career in the growing art world. Artists can choose to work independently or within the larger setting of museums, galleries, archives, educational institutions, libraries, small businesses, or corporations. Many artists are choosing to work within technology and media firms in image creation and product design roles.
We have an amazing community of successful graduates from the studio arts program you can connect to and learn from.
Major in Studio Arts
A major in studio arts is typically declared prior to the junior year and requires a total of 48 hours.
Students are encouraged to meet with a faculty advisor to design a coherent program of study early in their degree process. Majors should consider courses alternative to the regular 200/300 level offerings; internships as well as courses such as study abroad are encouraged and available.
Majors must present an exhibition of works in their senior year and a thoughtful, cohesive defense of it; documentation of the works is to be submitted and retained by the department. This work will eventually be added to the Virtual Alumni Gallery, which is currently under development.
