The American Music Therapy Association has voted to approve Indiana Wesleyan University's new Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy program in the School of Music on IWU's main Marion campus. The AMTA is the primary accreditation body for music therapy programs in the United States.
"Let's rejoice together in this outstanding and God-led accomplishment," Guy said in an email to faculty members. "I look forward to seeing what God has in store for the students in this program."
Guy noted that Assistant Professors Lisa Dawson and Rebecca Findley were instrumental in making the accreditation possible.
"Their tireless effort in working with present students (and in some cases their parents!) advising these students and recruiting new ones has been fantastic," Guy said.
A bachelor's degree in music therapy offers graduates access to a flourishing job market that can blend a student's passion for music with the ability to help people.
"You can work in hospice, you can work in nursing homes, you can work in schools, you can work in churches, you can work in hospitals, daycares, all different types of areas where music therapy is being used to help people with physical problems, help people with emotional problems, help with all different types of problems," Guy told the IWU Triangle magazine.
