The Indiana Wesleyan University TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Program supports eligible students in transition from high school through college graduation, by motivating them toward academic, personal, and social self-determination.

The TRiO SSS Program supports the IWU mission of changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship, and leadership within this Christ-centered academic community. The TRiO SSS Program is funded 100% by the U. S. Department of Education.

Services Provided

Individual Retention Plan

TRiO SSS advisors work individually with students to assess and anticipate academic, career, and personal needs. Advisors use various assessment tools to determine each student's abilities and needs.

These assessments aid students and advisors in developing an Individualized Retention Plan (IRP) that is used to identify and work toward semester goals that help students improve and succeed academically.

Support

Academic support is provided on many topics and through both individual training and workshops. These include:

  • One-on-One Tutoring
  • Academic Accountability
  • Support from Trained Advisor
  • Time Management Training
  • Study Skills Training
  • Student Advocacy
  • Interpersonal Skills Training
  • Financial Management Training
  • Disability Support
  • Grant Aid for Eligible Students
  • Free Printing and Copying

Program Qualifications

Federal law regulates qualifications for the TRiO SSS Program. Students are eligible if they show a need for academic support and meet one of the following criteria:

First Generation Student

A student's parents (or the single parent that a student lives with) have not earned a bachelor's level college degree.

Low Income Student

Parents' TAXABLE income (or the single parent's taxable income) does not exceed the level established by the U.S. Department of Education for family size. These figures are available on the TRIO application.

Student with a Disability

The student has a documented disability and has/will submit these documents to the Director of Disability Services at IWU.

Application

Applications for participation in the TRiO SSS Program are available in the Center for Student Success. Current IWU students can also download the application from MyIWU.
