Indiana Governor Mike Braun visited Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) on Wednesday, March 4, as part of his Grant County workforce development tour.

University leaders hosted a luncheon and presentation highlighting IWU’s significant economic impact and regional investment, along with its leadership in workforce and talent development initiatives. The visit showcased the university’s community partnerships supporting working families, innovation in artificial intelligence and technical education, apprenticeship programming, and long-term regional development aligned with READI 2.0.

“IWU was honored to welcome Governor Braun to our Marion campus,” said IWU President Jon Kulaga, PhD. “His commitment to workforce development and economic growth aligns closely with our mission to prepare students not only for meaningful careers, but for lives of character, leadership, and service. At IWU, we believe education is one of the most powerful drivers of regional transformation. Through innovation in AI, technical education, and apprenticeship pathways, we are equipping graduates to strengthen Indiana’s workforce and contribute to thriving communities across our state.”

Governor Braun’s visit was also attended by state leaders Senator Nick McKinley and Representative Lori Gross-Reeves, as well as Grant County community leaders Gas City Mayor Bill Rock and Jonesboro Mayor Bob Goins. Kylie Jackson, CEO of Greater Grant County Chamber of Commerce, and Director at Grant Regional Career Center Nate McNeely were also in attendance alongside representatives of Braun’s cabinet, Regional Director Jerry Alexander and Tyson Priest, director of faith-based initiatives. While guests enjoyed a lunch catered by Obi’s Barbecue in IWU’s new Welcome Center, university leaders highlighted initiatives like the Wildcat Early Learning Academy, the Automotive Technology School, the I AM THIRD Arena, and current and upcoming AI programming.

The luncheon concluded with some closing remarks from Braun. “Your emphasis on ensuring degrees connect to real workforce needs is something many institutions miss,” he said. “It seems like you’re doing what all of us that are successful in business do: listen to the customer. Find out what the marketplace wants and tailor it accordingly.”

As a Christ-centered university committed to developing students in character, scholarship, and leadership, IWU views workforce development as part of its broader mission to serve communities, advance the common good, and positively impact the local, state, and national economies.

“Governor Braun’s visit highlights the critical connection between higher education, public policy, and workforce readiness,” said Penny Callaway, executive director of government and strategic relations. “From READI 2.0 alignment to community partnerships and talent development initiatives, IWU is focused on solutions that strengthen families, support employers, and help Indiana remain competitive in a rapidly changing economy.”
