Preparing Eighth Graders for What's Next
Preparing Eighth Graders for What's Next
Wildcat Junior is an immersive field trip for 8th-grade students in Grant County, designed to help them explore and prepare for their future college, career, and life pathways. Through a variety of interactive sessions led by IWU faculty, staff, and professionals, students gain hands-on experience in areas such as financial literacy, career exploration, and personal strengths assessment.
In collaboration with Project Leadership, students complete an Agile Work Profiler to better understand their talents and how these can align with future careers.
Participants also enjoy a campus tour led by admissions counselors and a chance to experience life on a college campus firsthand.
The program introduces students to postsecondary options including college enrollment, direct-to-work employment opportunities, and military pathways, while emphasizing how personal talents and strengths can guide career choices.
Families are also invited to an evening Readiness Seal session, providing guidance on Indiana’s updated graduation requirements and tools to support students’ planning for success beyond high school.
Wildcat Junior inspires students to think intentionally about their futures, explore possibilities, and take the first steps toward making informed decisions about life after high school.
