Pearl industry pioneer Shari Turpin chosen as Indiana Wesleyan University’s 2026 Spring Commencement ceremony speaker

Marion, Ind. (Apr. 28. 2026) — Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) has announced that Shari Turpin, founder and designer of the internationally acclaimed luxury jewelry brand Pearls by Shari, will serve as the featured speaker for the university's commencement ceremony on May 2, 2026.

Turpin's story is one of faith, perseverance and extraordinary entrepreneurial vision. What began 25 years ago as a home-based jewelry business selling handmade designs door-to-door as a homeschooling mother, has grown into a globally recognized brand with multiple locations and a coveted presence in Neiman Marcus. Based in Jackson Hole, Wyo., Pearls by Shari is celebrated worldwide for sourcing and curating some of the rarest South Sea pearls available today.

"Shari Turpin embodies the kind of faith-driven excellence we celebrate at Indiana Wesleyan University," said IWU President Jon Kulaga, Ph.D. "Her journey from humble beginnings to international acclaim is a testament to what God can do through a life fully surrendered to His purpose. We are honored to welcome her to our commencement stage and confident that her message will inspire our graduates as they step boldly into their callings."

In addition to her business achievements, Turpin is a sought-after speaker whose message centers on the pearl as a metaphor for the Christian life: beauty formed through adversity, refined by faith, and made luminous through perseverance. Her commitment to generosity and humanitarian work around the world further reflects the Christ-centered, world-changing values integral to an IWU education.

During the commencement ceremony, Turpin will also receive a presidential citation recognizing her global influence, entrepreneurial leadership, and servant-hearted example as a model of faith in the 21st century.
