Marion, Ind. (Apr. 20, 2026) — Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) hosted the Legacy of Service: Presidents’ Naming Ceremony and Dinner on April 9, celebrating the faithful leadership that has shaped the university’s mission and growth over the past several decades.
The ceremony formally dedicated three campus lodges in honor of individuals whose leadership and service strengthened IWU’s Christ-centered mission and global influence.
The lodges have been named:
Each dedication reflects a legacy of faithful service that advanced IWU’s mission to develop Christ-centered leaders for the Church and the world.
The rededication of Martin Lodge, formerly Martin Hall and now incorporated into the new I Am Third Arena, honors Glen Martin. His nearly four decades of teaching and mentoring shaped generations of students and leaders while extending IWU’s impact through scholarship and ministry.
Henry Smith’s presidency was marked by significant institutional growth, including record enrollment, expanded academic initiatives, and the launch of Wesley Seminary. During his leadership, the university’s endowment grew substantially, and IWU expanded its campus as well as its reach through adult and online education.
Under David Wright’s leadership, IWU entered a season of global engagement and innovation. New academic programs, expanded international partnerships, and major student initiatives strengthened the university’s global footprint while maintaining its commitment to Christ-centered education.
IWU President Jon Kulaga, Ph.D., said the ceremony reflects the university’s gratitude for leaders who faithfully served and stewarded its Christ-centered mission.
“We believe leadership is ultimately a calling of service to Christ and His Kingdom,” he said. “The lives and leadership of Dr. Smith, Dr. Wright, and Dr. Martin exemplify this kind of servant leadership. Their wisdom, courage, and vision continue to shape our community year after year. Dedicating these lodges in their honor encourages future generations of students to recognize that the mission of this university has always been carried forward by servants who faithfully followed Jesus.”
The ceremony brought together university leaders, students, and friends to reflect on IWU’s past, celebrate its present, and look with hope toward its future.
The event was hosted by Kulaga and his wife, along with the IWU Office of Advancement, as an expression of gratitude for leaders whose service has left a lasting impact on the university community.
