Indiana Wesleyan University generates $649 million annual economic impact in Indiana

MARION, Ind., (Jan. 21, 2026) — Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) has released its 2025 Economic and Social Impact Report, confirming the university’s role as a major contributor to Indiana’s economy. The independent analysis, conducted by Econsult Solutions Inc., found that IWU generates $649 million in annual economic activity, supports 3,510 jobs statewide, and produces $18.6 million in annual tax revenue.

The report demonstrates IWU’s impact at both the state and county levels. In Grant County, home to the Marion campus, IWU contributes $230.5 million annually, sustains 1,420 jobs, and generates $89.7 million in employee earnings. In Marion County, where the IWU Next Center anchors the university’s Indianapolis presence, the annual impact totals $117.1 million with 520 jobs and $38.6 million in earnings. Statewide, IWU invests about $19 million each year in new construction and renovation projects, producing $30.9 million in economic activity and supporting 200 jobs.

The findings also emphasize the enduring value of an IWU education. Of the university’s 115,000 alumni nationwide, 56,000 reside in Indiana. Their degrees contribute to $355 million in additional wages each year, creating a sustained lift in household income and strengthening the state’s tax base.

“This report confirms what we have long known,” said IWU President Jon Kulaga, Ph.D. “Indiana Wesleyan is both a Christ-centered academic community and a powerful economic engine for our state. Every investment in IWU strengthens communities, creates jobs, and builds sustainable hope.”

The report also highlights IWU’s broader social contributions. The university provides $35 million annually in unfunded scholarships, works with more than 80 community organizations, and welcomes 71,000 visitors to campus events each year. These commitments support small businesses, enrich local culture, and expand opportunities for Indiana families.
