Indiana Wesleyan University Presents Distinguished Military Alumni Award to Capt. Britton Shoellhorn

MARION, Ind. (Oct. 31, 2025) – Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) will honor Capt. Britton C. Shoellhorn as its inaugural Distinguished Military Alumni Award recipient on Tuesday, Nov. 11, during the university’s Veterans Day Breakfast. This new award is the result of collaboration between multiple departments and is meant to celebrate the achievements of IWU’s many alumni with military service careers.

Shoellhorn holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and Human Resource Management from IWU, as well as a Master of Practical Theology from Wesley Seminary. He is a U.S. Army officer and chaplain who also serves as a Texas law enforcement investigator, community pastor, and certified firefighter. He and his wife, Staff Sgt. Hollie Shoellhorn, have two children, Jayden and Zach.

Across nearly two decades of service, Shoellhorn has provided pastoral care, crisis counseling, and spiritual leadership to soldiers and their families in field environments and multinational settings. An avid community volunteer, Shoellhorn has held leadership roles in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, trained and mentored other chaplains, organized outreach to veterans and their families, provided pastoral care to local police and fire agencies, facilitated more than 400 worship services, and received the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. For Shoellhorn, his career has been defined by a dedication to faith, law, and community.

“We’re excited to launch this brand-new award as a way of recognizing some of our most impactful and world-changing alumni,” said Karen Dowling, IWU executive vice president and chief people and culture officer. “Britton Shoellhorn is the perfect person to receive this inaugural award, and we hope it will be both elevating and edifying.”
