Director of Academic Operations, School of Integrated Learning and Development
Dr. Anton (Tony) Hembrock is an educator and academic leader with 40 years of experience spanning military service, P–12 education, and higher education. He currently serves as Interim Dean and Director of Academic Operations for the School of Integrated Learning and Development (SILD) at Indiana Wesleyan University, where he provides leadership in academic operations, accreditation, educator preparation, faculty and staff development, program innovation, and strategic partnerships.
Dr. Hembrock began his education career while serving in the United States Air Force as a Weather Observer and Weather Forecaster, where he also taught adult education. Following his military service, he spent nearly two decades in P–12 education as a secondary science teacher, department chair, academic counselor, and high school principal. During his ten years as principal, he led curriculum development, faculty growth, strategic planning, and school operations while fostering a Christ-centered culture of academic excellence.
Since joining Indiana Wesleyan University in 2016, Dr. Hembrock has served in multiple leadership roles within SILD, contributing to accreditation, assessment, licensure, academic quality, program development, and institutional partnerships. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member and course developer, teaching earth science, meteorology, and in teacher education. Previously, Dr. Hembrock taught as adjunct faculty at Weber State University, Utah Valley University, and the University of Utah.
Dr. Hembrock’s research centers on professional learning, particularly the development of non-teaching staff in higher education. His research has examined employees' perceptions of the frequency and relevance of professional development and advocates for recognizing non-teaching staff as an essential workforce in higher education. His broader interests include leadership development, organizational effectiveness, artificial intelligence in education, teacher preparation, and building learning cultures that strengthen employees and improve student success.
Dr. Hembrock holds a Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership, an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, a Bachelor’s in Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and an Associates in Applied Science in Weather Technology. He and his wife have been married for 34 years and are the proud parents of three children and grandparents of three grandchildren. Outside of work, he enjoys woodworking, gardening, spending time outdoors, researching and learning artisan crafts, and making memories with family and friends.
