Reuben A Rubio II

Reuben A Rubio II, Ph.D.

Professor and Department Chair

Reuben A. Rubio, II, is a Professor of Education in the School of Integrated Learning and Development. During his career he has served as a vice-president, dean, division chair, department chair, and director of accreditation and assessment. He is also one of the three developers of Indiana Wesleyan University’s current EdD program, and has served as a chair or committee member for a number of successful candidates.

Dr. Rubio has led or been a key player in successful NCATE, TEAC, and CAEP accreditation efforts at different universities, including IWU, since 2004. He has also served as a PI or assessor for several grants during his career, notably one with a statewide impact for $2.1M from the US Dept. of Education. Besides assessment and accreditation, his interests include rubric design, quantitative and qualitative methods and the use of AI in research, the integration of faith in education, and praying for and promoting kingdom diversity and success for students of color in higher ed. He has long enjoyed serving with faculty colleagues in both state and local efforts aimed at professional development and networking. He also enjoys leading and participating in bible studies, prayer, mentoring, and other spiritually-minded explorations.

He has developed courses for IWU in graduate education at the master’s and doctoral level, in graduate physics, in undergraduate engineering, and in undergraduate science. He has also taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in all of those areas for IWU and other higher ed institutions.

He began his professional career as a nuclear engineer, with an undergraduate degree from The University of New Mexico, a master’s degree from The University of Michigan, and several years as a member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories, working in the numerical analysis of nuclear weapons effects testing. His doctorate is in education, with focus on science education and technology, from The University of Michigan.
