Miranda Cruz

Professor; Academic Chair

Theology and Ministry

Ph.D.; M.Div.

Dr. Miranda Cruz is the Academic Chair of the School of Theology and Ministry and teaches in the areas of Church history, theology, and ethics. She is also the author of Faithful Politics: Ten Approaches to Christian Citizenship and Why It Matters (IVP Academic, 2024).

Dr. Cruz is passionate about preparing women and men to serve God’s Kingdom faithfully in a complex world. The question that motivates her teaching and ministry is, What does it mean to follow Jesus faithfully in ordinary and extraordinary circumstances?

She loves teaching and investing in students as they discern God’s calling on their lives, always encouraging difficult questions and resisting too-easy answers.

She is a member of The Wesleyan Church and grew up in a sister denomination where she was encouraged to pursue her call to ministry.

When she isn’t teaching, Dr. Cruz enjoys a slow and intentional life with her family, with coffee and a good book on hand.
