Karen Hopkins

Karen Hopkins, DNP; RN; NPD-BC

Assistant Professor

Originally from Marion, Indiana, Karen is a graduate of Marion High School. After high school, she attended college at Indiana Wesleyan University. Upon her 1996 graduation with a bachelor's degree, she began her nursing career in a community hospital in Oklahoma, working on a pediatrics unit. In 1998, Karen returned to Marion and continued working as a nurse at Marion General Hospital, gaining experience in several areas, including the nursery and critical care. After earning her master's in nursing education from IWU in 2009, she became a clinical nurse educator and then Magnet Program Director at Marion General Hospital. As part of the faculty at IWU for 10 years as an adjunct instructor, Dr. Hopkins became full-time faculty in Fall 2017. She has a strong passion for teaching and mentoring students. In her spare time, Karen enjoys many hobbies, including restoring Hoosier cabinets, making maple syrup, and training her basset hounds.
