Joe Childs has been serving as Professor and DBA research chair in the DeVoe School of Business, Leadership, and Technology since joining IWU in October 2020. He also serves as the Executive Director of Innovation Projects, pioneered the DeVoe Entrepreneurial Experience business core initiative, and launched the aviation program.

Prior to joining he served as the Dean of the College of Business and Legal Studies at Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL and Associate Dean, and Chair, Business Department at Bethany University in Scotts Valley, CA.

Joe also maintains a consulting and executive coaching practice and has worked on accounts for major corporations based in Silicon Valley as well as coaching entrepreneurs and leaders from a variety of industries. Joe holds a FAA Commercial Pilot, Advanced Ground Instructor, and Instrument Flight Instructor certificates.

From 1990 to 1993 he worked with NGOs and governments as a consultant in the former Soviet Union, Romania, Hungary, and Poland as they transitioned to market economies. He has served on the executive board of directors for the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce, is a Past-President of Citrus Center Kiwanis, served on the Lakeland City Utility Committee and on the Florida 10th Circuit Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee. He served a mentor at Catapult Lakeland, a shared workspace for entrepreneurs.

He and his wife have five adult children and 16 grandchildren. While living in Florida, the volunteered as Guardian Ad Lite.m They now reside in Marion, IN, attend College Wesleyan Church, and frequently work remote from their motorhome as digital nomads.
