Daniel Jones

Professor

Division of Natural Sciences

DDS; Ph.D.

Dr. Dan Jones joined the faculty at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2002.

He earned degrees and worked at several positions to prepare for his current undergraduate teaching, advising, and research duties. He graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and from Indiana University School of Dentistry with a D.D.S. After practicing general dentistry for four years, he pursued a doctorate fellowship in Biomedical Science (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology emphasis) at Wright State University. On completion of his Ph.D., he worked five years as a post- doctoral research scientist (Eli Lilly & Company Cardiovascular Drug Discovery Unit for three years and then the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology for two years). He also instructed Pre-Nursing Physiology at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and First-Year Problem-Based Learning at the Indiana University School of Dentistry during that time.

At Indiana Wesleyan University, he engages his research students with projects that focus on the biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology aspects of bone and joints with application to osteoporosis, arthritis, and dental osteonecrosis treatments. In addition, his lab investigates compounds that increase favorable Schwann cell migration to aid peripheral nerve injury repair. He teaches multiple courses, advises Biology majors, chairs the Faculty Pre-Health Care Sciences Program (Non-Nursing) Committee and is co-director of that program.
