Welcome to the website of the School of Teacher Education at Indiana Wesleyan University. As you browse these pages, it is our hope that you will catch the sense of purpose we have for preparing accomplished teachers for America's public and private schools. We hope that you will also develop an understanding of our mission to prepare teachers who not only are competent, but also have hearts and a passion for students and a desire to see them grow and develop as individuals.
To accomplish our mission, the School of Teacher Education combines rigorous classroom instruction, extensive practice teaching placements in P-12 schools and a comprehensive assessment system designed to ensure that students develop the competencies essential for successful teaching. The result of this preparation is that our graduates transition into their professional careers confident in the knowledge that they are prepared to make a difference in the lives of their students, their colleagues and their schools.
The School of Teacher Education (STE) hosted a Culturally Responsive Teaching Symposium on March 16 and 17, 2012, in the banquet rooms of the Barnes Student Center on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus. The Symposium focused on the diversity that exists in schools and classrooms, and brought together IWU student teachers, STE alumni, University faculty, doctoral students and others into a setting where the issue of diversity could be discussed, ideas could be shared and all participants could learn what others are doing to teach all children effectively.
