This badge focuses on classroom management. When educators hear this term, they often think of classroom procedures, but more frequently, they associate it with discipline. The same is true with the scripture on which this workshop is founded. "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6 Many adults view this verse as an instruction to discipline a child instead of an instruction to teach them. When reviewing this scripture and comparing translations, other words used besides "train" include "start", "direct", and "teach". As Early Childhood professionals, we are responsible for training the students entrusted to our care, and teaching them should be our primary focus. A working classroom management plan not only helps students become better learners, but it also helps them become better people. It teaches students lessons of respect, honesty, responsibility, and truth.

Objectives:

  1. Establish a foundation: write and discuss a preliminary definition of Classroom Management.
  2. Analyze approaches: Analyze differing approaches to primary grade management philosophies.
  3. Synthesize Process: Synthesize essential elements and processes of a well-managed primary classroom.
  4. Classroom greeting: Identify how to start a K-3 day in a positive way by greeting each student.

This badge focuses on classroom management. Procedures help the classroom function smoothly and more efficiently. Teachers and students perform more effectively when procedures are clear and followed. Procedures must be practiced and reinforced multiple times; in fact, there is even a procedure for teaching procedures. Reinforcing correct procedures helps acknowledge that the student is on the right track. Procedures help us in and outside the classroom; there are procedures for almost everything we do.

Objectives:

  1. Evaluate Long-Term Impact: evaluate the long-term impact that interactions have on the lives of children (Proverbs 22:6).
  2. Evaluate Procedures: evaluate classroom procedures relevant and appropriate for primary grades, both inside and outside of the classroom.
  3. Synthesize Processes: synthesize essential elements and processes of a well-managed primary classroom.

This badge highlights the fact that teaching can be both the most rewarding and the most stressful occupation. Some proactive work at the beginning of the year on the part of the teacher can help alleviate some of the stress that can come as the year progresses. Building a positive relationship with the families of your learners can go a long way in mitigating the stress and conflict that arise when disagreements occur between the family and you. Another method to manage some of the stress that comes with teaching is to follow a devotional or blog. There are many available, and they come in both digital and paperback formats.
