Our Beliefs

Faith Diversity at IWU

Indiana Wesleyan University is a Christian university rooted in the Wesleyan tradition. While faith in Jesus Christ shapes the mission and values of the institution, students from a variety of Christian backgrounds and faith traditions are part of the IWU community.

The following foundations reflect the core beliefs of the Wesleyan tradition and guide how faith is lived, taught, and practiced at IWU.

The Bible is God’s Holy Word and the foundation for faith and practice at IWU. Scripture guides the university’s beliefs, priorities, and mission, shaping how the community lives, learns, and serves together.
Jesus Christ is central to IWU’s identity and understanding of faithful living. Through Christ, students are invited into a life shaped by faith, hope, and love—expressed in both personal growth and service to a world in need.
Disciple-making is a core calling of the Christian faith. IWU embraces this mandate by encouraging spiritual formation, faithful witness, and lives marked by growth, purpose, and service within the church and beyond.
The Wesleyan tradition emphasizes the vital role of the local church in spiritual formation and mission. IWU supports and partners with churches as central places of discipleship, leadership development, and service.
Leadership at IWU is rooted in service. Influenced by the example of Christ, servant leadership values humility, integrity, and a willingness to lead by serving others with grace and faithfulness.
Every person bears inherent value as part of God’s creation. IWU affirms unity in Christ while recognizing and respecting differences in background, culture, and perspective, believing that mutual love strengthens the community.
