Please join us in celebrating Trey Shigley, our youth worker for the month of September!
Trey has been working with youth ministries for the past 7 years and is in his first full year of being a youth pastor!
Trey has always felt the call on his life to go into ministry. God has been affirming his call throughout the years with countless experiences and people.
He has always been interested in working with youth – seeing that it is a vital time in their development where they are forming their own ideas about faith and God. He sees that, “This is the last chance that the church gets to teach students how to feed themselves spiritually before they head off to college or work.”
His favorite moments in student ministry is when a student’s faith clicks for them. When they begin to take initiative and reach out to their friends, desiring to help them grow spiritually. He states, “When spiritual growth can take place without any pastor present that is the most beautiful thing.”
Currently his favorite Bible passage is Jeremiah’s call to ministry in Jeremiah 1 – specifically Jeremiah 1:7-8 where it says, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD.
He likes to hang out with his wife Hollie, read, play sports, and hang out with his 1 year old black goldendoodle (who is crazier than any middle school student!)
His favorite TV show is Friends, favorite movie is Lord of the Rings, and he thinks there is no better sports team than the Looney Toon/MJ team in Space Jam.
