Please join me in celebrating Skyler Norton, our youth worker for the month of February!
He has been involved in full-time vocational ministry for three and a half years. With that, having served in youth ministry for ten years.
He received his call to ministry at a camp the summer before going into his senior year of high school. While he was there, an Indiana Wesleyan University student spoke life to him one evening. He planted the seed about the possibility of going into ministry. Throughout the week, God kept watering that seed and on the last night of camp, Skyler felt the call that God placed on his life to go into full-time ministry.
Before his call into ministry, he had never thought about working with youth. His original plan was to go to college and study architecture and focus on just that. Ironically, serving youth had never been on his radar.
Now that he has been involved in youth ministry, he says that one of the biggest highlights is seeing student’s lives change. Whether that is a first time accepting of Christ as their Savior, rededicating their lives to Christ, or choosing to get baptized. Skyler says that moments like those are why he is in youth ministry and are the moments that he will always remember. Along with those amazing God moments, another aspect is the memories that he has made with the students. Whether this is just getting coffee with them or playing silly games, or laughing together. He says, “Watching students just being students is awesome! Laughing with them is even better.”
His favorite Bible verses are Isaiah 41:10 and James 1:12.
He loves going to the movies and watching movies on his days off. He says that he simply enjoys taking some time and seeing a movie with his wife, friends, or even some days by himself. He also enjoys going on walks with his wife, only when it’s warm of course, and talking with her about life and how they have been seeing God move in the ministry they are a part of.
His favorite sports team is the Indiana Pacers.
His favorite movie is Good Will Hunting and his favorite TV show is The Office.
A fun fact about Skyler is that he currently has five tattoos and is looking forward to getting a few more in the future.
