MAKING THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS COME ALIVE

Indiana Wesleyan University's Bachelor of Arts with a major in Biblical Literature degree is for students interested in studying the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. The program is packed with Bible courses that will help you understand the background of the Bible, the culture of people from the Bible, relevant archeological finds, and how to interpret and apply the Bible to life. This is a great double major for students who want a solid foundation in the Bible. Some students who plan to go on to seminary take this degree as well.

If you are interested in the Bible and its meaning to life today, or if you want to teach Bible in a Christian school, this is a degree for you to consider. The courses are also populated with many students from other majors, as all IWU students are required to take some Bible courses.

Students may also choose to earn an Associate of Arts degree for quick entry into the workforce and a foundation for further education, or to minor in Biblical Literature as a supplement to another IWU major.

BIBLICAL LANGUAGES MINOR

We also offer a Biblical Languages minor, to aid in the development of world-changing biblical practitioners by laying the linguistic foundations necessary for in-depth biblical study. A minor in Biblical Languages consists of 18 credit hours.

SUMMER IN HOLY LAND PROGRAM

IWU's Summer in Holy Land Program is a six-week academic study in Israel, Palestine, and Jordan. This program focuses on the geographical and historical settings of the Bible, the discipline of archaeology and its contributions to biblical studies, and the modern-day culture of Israel and Palestine. Students travel the lands of the Bible, experience firsthand the places and culture of the biblical narrative, participate in an official archeological dig, and engage with Palestinian Christians through worship and ministry. A total of 9 undergraduate or 9 graduate credit hours may be earned through this program.

In order to be considered for admission, students must have completed at least 30 credit hours of undergraduate coursework including four hours of prerequisites, pass a routine physical, and complete the application process. For more information, please contact the School of Theology and Ministry at 765-677-2251 or brian.bernius@indwes.edu.

BIBLICAL HISTORY AND GEOGRAPHY MINOR

The Biblical History and Geography minor includes Fall and Spring semester studies, but no travels abroad. Participants in the Summer in Israel program will earn 12 of the 18 required credit hours for this minor. Students who choose to study at Jerusalem University College (JUC) in a semester-abroad program will be able to fulfill this minor through a combination of the IWU and JUC coursework.

Faculty

The Biblical Literature major in the School of Theology and Ministry at IWU is designed to give students a well-balanced and in-depth look at the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. In addition, the Biblical Literature major features several well-known Bible professors, including Wilbur Williams, Ken Schenck, and Steve Lennox. Students will look forward to experiencing the Greek and Hebrew languages with Elaine Bernius and have the opportunity to gain hands-on archeological experience during the Summer in Israel program with Brian Bernius.
