Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI)
The Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) was founded in 1892 to promote early childhood education in the United States and elsewhere. ACEI is a global community of educators and advocates who unite knowledge, experience and perspectives in order to exchange information, explore innovation and advocate for children. ACEI is concerned with the development, growth and education of children from infancy through early adolescence.
National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
The National Council of Teachers of English is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. It is the mission of NCTE to promote the development of literacy, the use of language to construct personal and public worlds and to achieve full participation in society, through the learning and teaching of English and the related arts and sciences of language.
Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents. CEC advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets professional standards, provides professional development, advocates for individuals with exceptionalities, and helps professionals obtain conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice.
American Association for Health Education (AAHE)
The mission of the American Association for Health Education (AAHE) is to advance the profession by serving health educators and others who strive to promote the health of all people through education and other systematic strategies. AAHE seeks to develop and promulgate health education standards, foster the development of national research priorities in health education and promotion, and provide mechanisms for the translation and interaction between theory, research and practice.
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is a public voice of mathematics education supporting teachers to ensure equitable mathematics learning of the highest quality for all students through vision, leadership, professional development and research. The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is a global leader and authority in mathematics education, ensuring that all students have access to the highest quality mathematics teaching and learning.
National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE)
The NASPE's mission is to enhance knowledge, improve professional practice, and increase support for high-quality physical education, sport and physical activity programs. NASPE envisions a society in which all individuals are physically educated and participate in lifelong physical activity.
National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
The National Science Teachers Association is a member-driven organization, 60,000-strong. The NSTA publishes books and journals for science teachers from kindergarten through college. Each year the NSTA holds four conferences on science education: three regional events in the fall and a national gathering in the spring. The NSTA provides ways for science teachers to connect with one another, and informs Congress and the public on vital questions affecting science literacy and a well-educated workforce.
National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS)
The National Council for the Social Studies is the largest association in the country devoted solely to social studies education. NCSS engages and supports educators in strengthening and advocating social studies. NCSS serves as an umbrella organization for elementary, secondary and college teachers of history, geography, economics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology and law-related education. Organized into a network of more than 110 affiliated state, local and regional councils and associated groups, the NCSS membership represents K-12 classroom teachers, college and university faculty members, curriculum designers and specialists, social studies supervisors, and leaders in the various disciplines that constitute the social studies.
American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL)
The ACTFL is a national professional membership organization representing more than 12,000 language educators from all levels of instruction and all languages. As part of its mission and vision, the organization provides guidance to the profession and to the general public regarding issues, policies and best practices related to the teaching and learning of languages and cultures. ACTFL is a leading national voice among language educators and administrators and is guided by a responsibility to set standards and expectations that will result in high-quality language programs.
TESOL International Association
TESOL's mission is to advance professional expertise in English language teaching and learning for speakers of other languages worldwide. TESOL believes in professionalism in language education; interaction of research and practice for educational improvement; accessible, high-quality education; respect for diversity, multilingualism and multiculturalism; respect for individual language rights; and collaboration in a global community.
