University faculty will mentor and challenge you in the refinement of your pedagogical skills and professionalism. Each stage of the program allows for assessment and reflection as you develop your God-given gift of teaching.
If you sense a calling to bring a Christian worldview to your teaching career, we invite you to consider majoring in Elementary Education at Indiana Wesleyan University.
IWU ALUMNA RECEIVES TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Amanda (Funnell) Schwind is awarded the English Language Teacher Award, an award not given out every year but rather created and given as deserved. Schwind was nominated by members from the Jessamine community including students' parents and Schwind’s co-workers.
During her time on campus, Schwind held leadership positions as the Chaplain in her residence hall and the Student Body Chaplain.
“Little did I know that these roles as Chaplain would also be instrumental in my current unofficial placement as the liaison between our local school district and the diverse seminary community where I live,” said Schwind. “Chaplaincy and my professors at IWU taught me how to advocate, often upstream, for others and for myself, which I believe will be a lifelong learning process.”
Faculty
Whether right out of grad school or after some years in the profession, IWU professors moved to the head of the class. Was it a passion for sharing the field of their dreams? Was it a divine prompting to make students their business? Or were they looking for a place where they could teach their profession and still share a profession of faith? No doubt it was all of the above.
