The Indiana Wesleyan University Biology Education program is designed for students whose desire is to teach others about the wonders of God's living creation. The program is also designed to meet the Indiana science education standards, and the standards developed by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
A degree in Biology Education will equip you with the knowledge needed in your field of study, the skills necessary to convey that knowledge effectively to students, and the dispositions required to be a successful educator and difference-maker in the lives of your students and colleagues. IWU's program combines a core of biology, chemistry, and earth science, with major courses in plant and animal biology, ecology, genetics, and vertebrate development, among others, along with professional education courses that prepare students to teach in public and private middle- and high-school classrooms. Content-specific coursework and clinical field experiences will allow you to combine theory and practice as you expand your knowledge and develop your God-given gift of teaching.
If you sense a calling to bring a Christian worldview to your teaching career, we encourage you to consider majoring in Biology Education at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Faculty
Whether right out of grad school or after some years in the profession, IWU professors moved to the head of the class. Was it a passion for sharing the field of their dreams? Was it a divine prompting to make students their business? Or were they looking for a place where they could teach their profession and still share a profession of faith? No doubt it was all of the above. We invite you to come to campus and ask students what they think.
