FAQ's
It is free to see the nurse. The Nurse Practitioner visits incur a charge, depending on the level of care needed; the range is $25 to $75 per visit. If you do not have insurance, we will work with you by making a payment plan. We will not turn anyone away from getting care if they cannot afford it. There is always a way!
The Wildcat Health Clinic has a variety of over-the-counter medications given free of charge, including but not limited to generic Tylenol, Ibuprofen, cold medications, various stomach medications, etc.. We also have items for wound care, sprains and strains, etc. We offer crutches and nebulizers (for breathing treatments) on loan as long as the student needs.
The Wildcat Health Clinic is not a dispensing pharmacy, meaning that someone cannot bring a prescription from their own health care provider to be filled. We also cannot bill insurance for prescriptions. We do have a number of generic medications we dispense if ordered by the NP at an equal or lower cost than a regular pharmacy would charge. For any medications not available at the Health Clinic, there are local pharmacies able to assist.
Costs at the Wildcat Health Clinic are definitely lower than an ordinary doctor's office! We have options to assist that most offices do not. Also, our charges are generally considerably lower. We try very hard to keep prices as low as possible while continuing to provide quality care.
Flu shots are offered beginning in the Fall and will continue until we are out of vaccines. The cost will vary depending on the cost to us, but usually it is $25 per dose.
Usually, the nurse will see a patient first and assess the patient to determine what level of care is needed. If needed the nurse will refer the patient to the NP. The nurses can provide over the counter medications, provide self-help care information, perform rapid strep, flu, and mono tests, chem strips for urinalyses, blood sugar screenings, and urine drug screens (all of the tests incur a charge). Any patient can also request to see the NP.
