Our team of qualified mental health counselors is committed to working with students to help them deal with a variety of emotional and behavioral concerns so that they can take full advantage of the opportunities provided them in their years as students at IWU.
Counseling is available on a first-come, first-served basis. To be eligible for clinical counseling services through the Center for Student Success, students must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours in a Residential Campus undergraduate program. Counseling is limited during the May term and unavailable during the summer. Once the application form is completed, if there are no available appointments, students will be placed on a waiting list in the order in which they have filled out their forms. Additionally, they will be offered a list of off-campus mental health service providers. Assessment will be prioritized for students deemed to be at serious risk of harm to themselves or others.
Privacy and Confidentiality
When meeting with a counselor, all students are assured that what is being said will not be repeated or shared with anyone (including parents, faculty members, or other IWU staff) outside of the clinical counselor setting. The only times that information can be shared with others is if students have given their expressed written consent to share the information, it is determined that the students pose an immediate risk of harm to themselves or another identifiable person or group, or if the information is requested as part of a criminal investigation or court proceeding.
