The Public Policy program prepares students for specialized fields of study and employment. Vocations include environmental science and policy, space science and technology policy and administration, population studies, strategic studies, education policy, national and international security policy, communication policy, sports and exercise administration, health administration, nonprofit management, arts administration, urban and regional policy, public administration, development and growth administration, and the design of public institutions for developed and developing societies.

As professional programs, Political Science Pre-Law (PPL) and Social Studies Education (SSE) prepare division majors for public service careers.

The PPL program is designed to equip students for successful completion of the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT), the results of which enable majors to apply for law school. Recent IWU graduates of this program have attended law school at the University of Chicago, Case Western Reserve University, Ohio Northern University, the University of Virginia, Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and other schools.

Social Studies Education (SSE) graduates seek employment as public and private school teachers, grades 5 through 12. The SSE program allows majors to apply for teaching positions in all 50 states, enabling our recent graduates to be teaching now in local school districts, across Indiana and throughout the country. Some division alumni have taught in international settings, including South Korea, China and Puerto Rico.

All of our division programs provide excellent preparation for careers in the public sector and for graduate school. Recent graduates have been employed by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Family Institute, the Office of Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, and the Indiana State Senate. Through our Political Science Practicum program, division majors gain hands-on experience in various political and legal offices while earning academic credit. Placement sites include the Grant County (IN) Prosecutor's Office, the Indiana House and Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and the White House. Several recent graduates have gained employment in part due to these work-study experiences.
