Research students from Dr. Dan Jones’ research lab gave poster presentations on November 7, 2020, at the West Michigan Regional Undergraduate Science Research Conference. The conference is hosted by the Van Andel Research Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 2020’s virtual platform conference allowed students to share their findings with other students, faculty, and research scientists. Students had the opportunity to engage in scientific dialog from biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, chemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, neuroscience, physics, and other disciplines. As in previous years of the conference, graduate, professional, and medical school recruiters presented the educational opportunities available at their institutions. The students who participated presented their Hodson Summer Research Institute work that they accomplished on the Indiana Wesleyan University campus during the summer of 2020. Those students along with the titles of their presentations were as follows:
Charles Barnes: Dose Optimization of Potential Topical Compounds for Treating Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: Dose-Response Curve Determinations in Human Oral Keratinocytes and Gingival Fibroblasts
Evan Brown: Rescue of Human Oral Keratinocytes and Gingival Fibroblasts from Zoledronate-Induced Viability Loss: Inroads to Lessening a Bone-Cancer Drug Side Effect
Alex Cartwright: Endocytosis Inhibition as a Rescue Strategy for Zoledronate-Induced Cell Death
