The Math/CIS division sponsors many travel opportunities to professional conferences and sites where computer scientists and mathematicians work.

CIS Field Trips
Each semester, the CIS Department takes a field trip.  Past sites have included the FBI, General Motors, Purdue University, Ontario Systems, Marion General Hospital, MISO Inc, BAE Systems, Ft Wayne Police Digital Forensics Lab, St. Martin Community Center, and Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center.  On these field trips, students see applications of computing technology in fields such as healthcare, forensics, energy distribution, custom software development, and national defense.

ACM Conference
The IWU student chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery sponsors an overnight trip each fall to the annual Reflections/Projections conference at the University of Illinois https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflections_Projections.  This student-led conference includes job fairs, a programming competition, and presentations by leaders of both large and start-up companies.

Miami University of Ohio Conference
The Mathematics Department sponsors a trip each fall to the mathematics conference at Miami University https://www.miamioh.edu/cas/academics/departments/mathematics/about/events/annual-mathematics-conference/index.html.  The trip is one option for students to meet the professional development requirement in certain mathematics courses.  The conference includes talks by undergraduate math majors, and many IWU students have spoken at this conference.

Joint Meetings

AMS/MAA Joint Math Meetings
Most years in January, the Math Department funds 3-6 students to travel with a faculty member to the national AMS/MAA Joint Math Meetings https://www.ams.org/meetings/national/national. This four day conference is the largest mathematical event in the nation, averaging around 6000 attendees and hundreds of sessions. Cities to which IWU students have traveled include Boston, Washington DC, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Baltimore. Several IWU students have also presented research posters at this conferencTime is usually also available for sight-seeing.
