Leaders needed on the road to wellness
If you desire to promote healthy lifestyles, wellness, and fitness, then this could be the program for you.
Indiana Wesleyan University's Applied Health and Fitness major is designed to prepare you for a range of careers in corporate wellness, personal training, strength and conditioning, health promotion, and fitness club management, to name a few. By applying course knowledge learned in the IWU Human Performance lab, you can step into the real world of health, fitness, and wellness. You can also pursue practical experiences based on your specific area of interest.
Graduates of this program can become certified as a Personal Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Health Fitness Specialist, or Group Fitness Instructor. The IWU faculty encourages certifications from a nationally recognized organization such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), or American Council on Exercise (ACE).
Students may also choose to minor in Health Promotion and Wellness as a supplement to another IWU major.
Pre-Physical Therapy Program
The Pre-Physical Therapy program consists of a combination of courses in addition to the course requirements for any other official university major, and is designed to prepare students for application to a professional physical therapy school. Majors in Athletic Training, Biology, Exercise Science, and Psychology best complement this program. Some professional schools may require additional coursework; therefore, it is imperative that interested students obtain the appropriate prerequisite requirements and related information from potential graduate schools and work with their advisors to meet all admissions requirements.
Faculty
For Applied Health and Fitness (AHF) faculty, the path to the front of the university class was paved with a variety of real-world educational experiences. What they learned while teaching health and wellness and physical education in the public school system, developing health promotion and wellness programs, and providing care in outpatient orthopedic clinics will benefit you as you anticipate the workday world of wellness and fitness.
Balancing their professional, civic and spiritual lives, AHF faculty contribute to their professional organizations, give back as community volunteers and are active in their church communities.
