Strategic communication student Hannah Valadez interned at Nick McKinley State Farm Insurance in Marion, Indiana. The IWU Accelerate Internship program placed her in this paid internship as the event/ marketing coordinator. Valadez aspires to be an event coordinator, so this internship gave her real-world experience. “Everything I have learned in my classes in the Division of Communication & Theatre has been applicable to real life in some way or another,” Valadez said. “My classes helped me communicate well with my boss and coworkers, use my creative ability to plan events with the community and do research.”

Write or edit stories that are published on this student-managed digital news outlet. Advanced journalism students have the additional opportunity to write for the Marion Chronicle-Tribune, our city's daily professional newspaper.
IWU Theatre Guild
The IWU Theatre Guild a group of artists who come together to create theatre. The Guild serves to reinforce students’ classroom learning while, at the same time, engaging in productions. Participate in the four shows every season—two in the fall and two in the spring. You can write, perform or work behind the scenes. Additional opportunities include the 24-Hour Theatre Festival, which allows you to craft and perform a one-act play in 24 hours, and Hoosier Shakes, a summer theatre company headed by Dr. Greg Fiebig, where you can gain professional theatre experience.
Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
Get hands-on professional experience, find internships and network with public relations professionals through IWU’s chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Field trips, leadership positions and Half Day with a Pro are just a few of the many reasons to join. PRSSA’s parent organization is Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the nation’s premier professional organization serving the communications community.
Students work with staff professionals on local news magazine shows, live basketball games, community telethons and IWU cultural and worship events. Student managers earn stipends based on a competitive interview process and professional fulfillment of responsibilities.
