Cast of Importance of Being Earnest at first read-through

Theatre Guild is in High Gear

Sep. 24, 2011

You know you’re involved in IWU Theatre if…

…. you’re excited for the opening of Tuesdays with Morrie next week.

… you’re looking forward to starting work on The Importance of Being Earnest.

… you’ve barely had time to breathe since the semester started.

Classes are only just in their fourth week, but many things have already happened in the world of IWU Theatre. After the kick-off welcome meeting on September 8, one of the first events was the Audition Workshop on Saturday, September 10. Auditioning is a nerve-wracking experience for nearly everyone, regardless of age or experience. IWU Theatre professors Dr. Fiebig and Dr. Katie are well aware of this. So, to provide an opportunity for potential audition-ers to have a leg up in auditions this season, the theatre professors hosted the Audition Workshop the first Saturday after classes began. They discussed different types of auditions, as well as some professional and regional theatre audition opportunities. They also talked some about the casting process and what most auditions here at IWU look like.

After the Workshop, students auditioned for The Importance of Being Earnest on Wednesday, September 14. The cast list was posted the following morning, and rehearsals officially began with the first table read on Monday, September 19. Dr. Fiebig, who is directing the show, said “It’s always exciting to see and hear a cast read through a play for the first time. As director, you have an idea of how things will look and sound. But then, sometimes, it sounds even better than you imagined. I cannot wait to see the final production.” Tuesdays with Morrie will begin the season, opening on Friday, September 30, and full-swing rehearsals for The Importance for Being Earnest will begin as Tuesdays with Morrie closes. In short, this season is already off to a busy start!

Those interested in working on The Importance of Being Earnest can fill some of the technical positions still available.  There will also be auditions and crew placement for The Glass Menagerie and The Women of Lockerbie near the end of this semester and the beginning of next, so keep an eye out for further information.
