IWU's Public Relations Student Society of America Chapter (PRSSA) is relatively new to the PR education community, but is already grabbing national attention. Last fall, the IWU organization received the Chapter Development Award at the PRSSA national convention in San Francisco.
Jenn Goethel, junior Public Relations major and chapter president, and Dr. YoungAh Lee, Professor of Public Relations and faculty advisor,
attended the convention which included multiple days of networking, panel sessions and presentations.
The award recognized IWU's fledgling organization for its membership resourcing and growth. It included funds for further development in student opportunities. ” It was an amazing moment of sincere pride for the chapter,” Goethel said.
Goethel and Lee had the opportunity to hear the co-founder of Twitter and Pandora speak, and sessions ranging from PR professional workshops, to sports management and media relations.
Goethel said, IWU PRSSA’s leadership team is already starting to develop packets to submit for next year’s national conference in Philadelphia. They are hoping to take more chapter members so that other PR students can benefit from the conference.
