The WIWU-TV newsmagazine Crossroads started its ninth season with eyes in the sky over Marion. The show kicked off the season on location at the airport for the annual Marion Fly-In Cruise-In over Labor Day weekend.
Co-host Rilee Catalano (Grand Rapids, MI) joined WIWU-TV staff on a classic Ford Tri-Motor Flight, and co-host Randall King talked to regional pilots who land in Marion for the event. The Fly-In Cruise-In started more than 20 years ago as a simple fundraiser for the Marion High School Band and has grown to include a classic car show and showcase for antique planes and specialty pilots.
“My flight in the vintage Ford was my first and favorite experience at the air show, Catalano said. “I mean, how many opportunities do you get to fly in an antique plane, not to mention the bird’s-eye view of Marion? We talk about getting to know the community, and now I’ve really seen it all!”
Including the flying Labor Day kickoff, Crossroads has already produced four weekly episodes including visits to a demolition derby, an educational training center for Marion kids and the annual James Dean Festival in Fairmount, Indiana.
Stephanie McCracken, WIWU-TV Community Program Manager is starting her eighth year with Crossroads. She produces the program and works with new student producers on field segments and story development. “This season, not only do we get to find more stories and new people to feature, but we also have new students and young people out in the community telling those stories and getting to know Grant County. Its a win-win for us,” McCracken said.
