WIWU-TV’s Paul Crisp directs sports broadcast

Com Alum Wins WIWU-TV's First Telly Award

Jun. 01, 2012

WIWU-TV Station Manager Paul Crisp (Communication Arts, ’95) brought home the first Telly Award in school history for a promotional campaign about IWU Men’s Basketball. The Telly’s are one of the nation’s premier awards honoring excellence in local and regional television production.

Crisp produced 3 different videos about the 2011-12 Men’s Basketball team for TV broadcast and playback during starting lineups in Luckey Arena. The look and feel of the videography and graphics in those pieces formed the core of the award entry.

Head Coach Greg Tonagel told the Chronicle-Tribune, “He put together an unbelievable video for us. It’s the quality of video you’d see on ESPN or Fox Sports or ABC Sports.”

Crisp has worked at WIWU-TV since his student years, essentially creating a job position for himself when he graduated and the TV station was just getting started. “I love the variety of things I get to work on at WIWU,” he told the Chronicle-Tribune.  He has worked his entire career at the station and plans to continue developing local programming and working with the next generation of media communication students.

Each year, over 11,000 entries are submitted nationwide to the Telly Awards, which are judged by a panel of previous winners within professional media companies. Approximately 25% are chosen for the Bronze award, and 10% for the Silver, which is the highest recognition.
