Hello! My name is Kendra Schiess, and I have the privilege of serving students and their families across Northern Ohio, the North East part of the United States, and all the states in between the Mississippi and the Rockies. I graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in April 2018 with a degree in social work. During my time here I experienced incredible growth, connection, and community. I love being an admissions counselor because I get to meet all kinds of amazing people and introduce them to the community that I lovingly call home.
I know that the college search process can be daunting at times, but I am here to walk alongside you the whole way! Please let me know how I can best support and serve you as you go through the college decision process.
The community! The people at Indiana Wesleyan University are what initially drew me to enroll here when I was in high school. When I first walked on campus, I felt like I was home. I've seen that sense of community and connection continue, even through my role as a member of the Admissions team!
Grabbing coffee at McConn, watching a movie at The Globe Theatre, or attending an IWU soccer game!
I get the chance to connect with students at a monumental time in their lives. I get to walk alongside them as they work through the college process, and determine where God is calling them to be. I feel honored to be an ambassador for this wonderful place that I call home.
We take the time to develop our students in all aspects of life. IWU's Marion campus is a wonderful, loving environment where students, staff and faculty genuinely care for each other. We are committed to developing students in even more than academics, but in who they are as individuals and brothers/sisters in Christ.
My greatest inspiration comes from the people who persevere through tragedy and hardships to become vessels for God's goodness, love and grace. I love seeing people overcome their circumstances to become who God has intended them to be, and I am constantly inspired by this bravery, whether I encounter it in people I know, stories I hear or strangers who share their heart with me.
I love to read (non-fiction, historical fiction, mysteries, etc.), write and do crafty things. I participate in IWU's Craft Bazaar each year where I get to showcase and sell my handmade painted signs, string art pieces and more!
The most helpful thing for me when I was visiting colleges was to determine what was most important to me in a school (community, spiritual atmosphere, academics, etc.), and look for a place that embodied those priorities. When I first visited IWU's Marion campus, I felt at home right away and at peace with my decision to attend here because the campus had what I was looking for. This process can be daunting, but if you follow God's direction, you'll be exactly where you need to be.
