FYE FINAL Logo

The First-Year experience is a comprehensive set of programs designed to help you make a smooth, successful transition to college life and to begin to feel connected and supported by the IWU Community.

First Year Advising

Our Registration and Academic Services office offers a special first-year advising program that provides support and manages student registration for classes.

First Year Experience (FYE) Course

Course Details

Our first-year experience course is unique! It is not a separate course but is integrated either into a general education course or an intro-level, major specific course during fall semester.

Course Faculty

Each FYE course is led by a full-time faculty member.

Peer Educator

A Peer Educator is a current IWU student assigned to each FYE course to assist faculty in building community inside and outside the classroom. Peer educators support first-year students in group and individual contexts to assist in making a smooth transition into college.

New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation is a series of events that gives students an opportunity to get familiar with IWU’s campus and culture as well as connect with faculty, staff and other new students. New Student Orientation is required for every new student to ensure that they’re fully equipped to begin their IWU journey.
