Professional and Ministerial Background
Keith Drury served The Wesleyan Church headquarters in Christian Education and Youth leadership for 24 years before coming to Indiana Wesleyan University where he specializes in teaching practical ministry courses. He was born in Warren, Pa., the son of a pastor and district superintendent, and planned to become a forest ranger until he was called to the ministry as a college freshman. After serving as the pastor of a rural Pennsylvania church, and later a New Jersey suburban church, he joined The Wesleyan Church's headquarters in Christian education and youth work. During that time, he served the Wesleyan Church as Director of Midweek clubs (1972-78); Director of YES CORPS, a young adult missions effort (1972-75); Assistant General Director of Youth (1976-78); Executive Editor of Curriculum (1976-78); General Director of Youth (1980-88); and, following a two-year stint teaching Christian Education at Indiana Wesleyan University (1988-90), as The Wesleyan Church's Director of Local Church Education (1990-96). He returned to IWU as an Assistant Professor of Religion in 1996.
He proposed to Sharon Bailey on his first date (she said yes) and they have two sons. His personal hobbies include backpacking and canoeing. He has hiked the entire Appalachian Trail and canoed the entire Missouri River. His passion in teaching includes courses in church leadership, worship, discipleship, spiritual formation, Christian education, and practical applied ministry.
