Indiana Wesleyan University sponsored three events at this year’s Annual Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration held at the Indiana Convention Center. During the month of July, downtown Indianapolis welcomes thousands of people to various venues and events to celebrate diversity and inclusion. IWU-National & Global, IWU-Marion, Wesley Seminary, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion combined resources into a team of over 30 volunteers who participated in the Education Leadership Conference and Reception, the Corporate Luncheon and a three-day promotional display booth inside the Exhibition Hall—visited by over 35,000 attendees—to showcase university offerings.
Among those representing the University at the event were:
- Barbara Ihrke and two nursing students who conducted blood pressure testing for Expo attendees at the IWU Information Booth/Exhibition Hall.
- Sally Nurse who represented the Occupational Therapy Department and conducted strength tests for attendees.
“As a faith-based institution of higher education, IWU has an opportunity to impact the character, scholarship and leadership of individuals attending the annual Expo,” said Dr. Brad Grubb, regional dean for IWU-National & Global. “Often those who stop by the IWU booth have a story to tell about a relative or co-worker or a personal statement about why a college degree is now becoming their dream. We make connections and help inspire. That is why IWU sponsors this event and why we participate each summer.”
