Indiana Wesleyan University has established a strategic partnership with the Don Wood Foundation in association with its recently announced Engineering program. As part of the multi-year partnership, the Don Wood Foundation is providing $1.5 million in funding to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for the new Engineering Hall at IWU.
IWU will be naming the Engineering Hall after the Don Wood Foundation. The building at 4514 South Adams Street once housed a Marsh supermarket and CVS several years ago but now is the home of the Marching Wildcats and the new Engineering program.
"IWU is delighted to have the opportunity to partner with the Don Wood Foundation to establish our new Engineering program," said IWU President Dr. Wright. "This new program represents the culmination of a decade-long strategic plan that has established multiple new academic and athletic programs. The support of the Don Wood Foundation will allow IWU to capitalize on its exceptional faculty in design and the physical and applied sciences. In particular, the Don Wood Foundation grant will allow IWU to launch the program with state-of-the-art equipment for the use of our students. Most importantly, the experience and expertise that the Don Wood Foundation leaders have in engineering and manufacturing will provide excellent long-term support and guidance in the development and growth of the IWU engineering program."
The 22,000 square-foot Don Wood Engineering Hall will house dual-use classrooms, engineering shops, computer labs, robotics and automation lab, circuits and instrumentation lab, civil engineering lab, materials lab, thermos-fluid lab, and senior design and collaborative space.
"The Don Wood Foundation is pleased to support the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for nine hands-on labs that will educate Indiana Wesleyan students in their pursuit of engineering excellence," said Laura Macknick, Executive Director at the Don Wood Foundation. "This program will not only be unique in its design thinking approach but will also fill the need voiced by local and regional employers to hire homegrown engineering graduates who have a connection to Indiana."
A naming ceremony will be held later this fall in conjunction with a ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the facility. For more information about the IWU Engineering program visit: INDWES.EDU/ENGINEERING.
