MARION, Ind. (May 10, 2022) — This summer, IWU-National & Global’s newly equipped esports center in Indianapolis will host four weeks of esports camps designed to facilitate fun, friendship and learning for students entering fifth through eighth grades. Each five-day camp will feature morning and afternoon sessions and contain curriculum designed by IWU’s award-winning partners at International Stem League (iNSL).
“We’re excited to offer a summer opportunity for students to both have fun and stimulate their minds,” says Dr. Jon Sampson, vice president of enterprise development and regional ventures at IWU-National & Global. “These day camps will involve a healthy mix of gameplay and educational group activities, which will allow kids to see how esports can connect with practical, real-world opportunities.”
Students who enroll in the camps will be assigned to rooms with kids their age, enabling them to build relationships with their peers while they engage in esports activities. Throughout the summer, IWU’s camps will feature three different game themes:
- Battle Royale Meets Wearable Technology: Crank up your Fortnite game as esports meets engineering and design. Build battles introduce soft circuits, electronics and e-textiles to create team identities, fiberoptic badges and desktop mascots.
- Iracing, Esports & Building a Race Car: Hit the track with coaches on the same simulated racing platform used by Indy, NASCAR & Formula 1 pros around the world. Develop your racing techniques while exploring the P.R., Performance, Peripherals and Prototyping that drive Esports sim racing.
- Football, Esports & Augmenting Reality: Sports fans “tackle augmented reality” between gaming sessions to design augmented reality apps and get “down to a science” in prototyping launchers that never miss moving targets.
Camp start dates are July 11, 18, 25 and August 1. Each camp will take place Monday-Friday, with morning sessions running 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., and afternoon sessions running 1-4:30 p.m. All esports games used in the camps are designed to inspire offline, applied-learning activities designed by iNSL.
iNSL 5-Day T.E.A.M. Camps help gamers develop a cohesive teamwork strategy through group design projects that require individual contributions. Most camps include three or more "hands-on" STEM skills projects that build toward a showcase of the week's activities. Gamers take away a design portfolio that includes logbook notes, sketches, plans and projects to accompany time spent enjoying esports online.
Each camp fee is $249, which includes the cost of equipment, materials, drinks and snacks for every day of camp. To see the full camp schedule and register for a camp, visit the registration and information page.
