MARION, Ind. (April 25, 2022) — The IWU-National & Global School of Nursing is excited to announce its latest Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) to Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program, offering a major in Primary Care Nursing and a Family Nurse Practitioner specialization. The program is designed specifically for students wanting to fast-track their education toward the goal of being a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
“As a working FNP, I am excited to offer this option to students,” says Dr. Darla Gowan, assistant dean for nurse practitioner programs at IWU. “I have such a passion to see growth in students as they learn and develop skills that will lead to excellent patient care outcomes.”
This program is an excellent option for students who have completed their ASN and want to advance their careers because it enables them to achieve their master’s degree, skipping the bachelor’s degree. Coursework begins with BSN-level classes on nursing and the foundations of the practice, then progresses to topics surrounding leadership and transcultural care.
Through this program, IWU can offer the MSN degree to a broader audience, opening pathways for ASN graduates. Program faculty are all working NPs who understand the culture and the work environment in the modern nursing field. Coursework will follow the traditional N&G format of being primarily online, with clinicals taking place in person in an approved location of each student’s choice.
“By enrolling in this program, students will save money, reduce their time to degree completion and achieve more autonomy in their practice,” says Dr. Ruth Eby, dean of IWU’s Division of Doctoral Nursing. “We’re excited to offer this opportunity for ASN graduates to pursue an MSN degree and achieve the goal of becoming an FNP.”
With a strong commitment to a culture of care and expert faculty who go above and beyond to support their students, IWU-National & Global’s nursing program is consistently one of the highest-ranked in the nation. N&G’s faith-based, holistic approach to education produces nurse practitioners who see their role through a biblical worldview and understand how their faith impacts their work.
Students will complete the ASN-MSN program with a CCNE accreditation and extensive hours of experience within their respective field. The ASN-MSN program launches in Aug. 2022. For more information, visit indwes.edu/asn-msn.
