IWU-National & Global is pleased to announce a new specialization option for students considering a Bachelor of Science in Human Services: Life Coaching & Leadership.
This program equips students to work towards a bachelor’s degree in human services, while simultaneously preparing students for the International Coaching Federation (ICF) certification. Upon completion of the degree, students will be ready to sit for the ICF certification exam.
Students with a Bachelor of Human Services will also be qualified to apply for positions in social services or community support roles. In the United States, the demand for both these positions is projected increase in demand by more than 15%.
Theresa Veach, an assistant professor in the department of behavioral sciences, aided in the creation of this program, even completing IWU life coaching training herself.
“It was life-changing for me,” Veach said. “So much so, that I had to become involved in developing the curriculum so that others could experience what it means to truly be a ‘life coach.’ Not only will students learn how to help others transform their lives, but they will also be transformed in the process.”
The program, which is offered both online and onsite at regional education centers, is structured into four courses led by ICF-certified facilitators. Courses contain integrated, hands-on experiential learning. Not only will students learn about ethical principles and the core standards of life coaching per the International Coaching Federation, they will have the opportunity to hone their own life coaching skills and discover their individual life coaching niche.
“The impact of our work starts with each individual,” Levi Huffman, life calling coach for IWU’s student development office, said. “This specialization is significant because it helps individuals become better, more whole versions of themselves – which then impacts everything else. No matter what context a person wants to use their coaching specialization, the journey starts within.”
