Katy Hamilton is a senior History and Honors Humanities double major at IWU. This semester, she is studying History and Art History through a program in Oxford, England.
“I decided to study at Oxford because the curriculum seemed like the best fit for my major,” Hamilton said. “I'm also hoping to go to graduate school, and this program helps prepare students for that next step."
Hamilton is a part of the Scholars’ Semester in Oxford program, connected to the John Wesley Honors College. IWU partners with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) GlobalEd to send students abroad.
“My experience so far has been wonderful,” Hamilton said. “It's definitely an adjustment coming to a new country, but I'm getting used to the local accents and cars driving on the wrong side of the road. I've loved getting to know the other students in my program. We all go to small, Christian, liberal arts schools, so it's good to be in this new place with people who are going through the same thing I am. I've loved getting to know this city and these people, and I'm so excited for the rest of the semester.”
Hamilton connected with the Intercultural and Global Office (IGO) at IWU to apply for and plan for her semester abroad. Shawn Yang, the Director of International Programs, said that he is looking forward to helping students plan their education abroad trips.
“Due to COVID-19, most of our trips were either put on hold or canceled,” Yang said. “Now, the Executive Council approved all international travel this fall, which means we can resume offering education abroad opportunities. As we are opening up cautiously, we rejoice with faculty and students for the news.”
