Indiana Wesleyan University is pleased to announce Latrese Moffitt as the next Executive Director of the Intercultural and Global Office (IGO) on the IWU-Marion Campus. In this senior level, cabinet leadership role, Moffitt will lead the IGO office, which provides leadership for the Marion campus in the following areas:
- Diversity, equity, and belonging programming for IWU-Marion students, faculty and staff;
- Community engagement programming throughout Grant County;
- Education abroad programming around the world.
Latrese Moffitt officially begins her new role on July 1st, yet she is no stranger to IWU. In 2002, she started the first Multicultural Student Services Office on campus and later was a catalyst for the Multicultural Enrichment Council (MEC), a body that continues to provide diversity leadership to this day. In 2012, Moffitt left IWU to start her own consulting company (VOICE). As CEO and President, she provides diversity and inclusion education for local, national, and international organizations, including Wal-Mart Distribution Center, North Park University, the City of Marion, Marion General Hospital, and Integrated Women Leaders. Moffitt has also worked in higher education in the areas of student development, athletics, disabilities services, and pastoral ministries.
In addition to her work with students, Moffitt is also an accomplished athlete and coach. She was the national high school record holder in the high jump and still holds the California State high school high jump record. She was a 6-time NAIA high jump national champion and a 2-time alternate for the 1984 and 1988 United States Olympic teams. These skills have provided a platform for coaching at the high school, college and youth Olympic levels. Her two children (both IWU alumni), Michael and Janae have benefitted from her coaching, accruing multiple Big 10 and NAIA national championships between them. Latrese and her husband, Michael (IWU’s Special Assistant to the President for Corporate and Community Relations), have lived in Marion for more than 20 years and served our community in many ways.
Most importantly, Latrese loves Jesus, loves students, and loves helping organizations realize their goals for diversity, equity, and belonging. As she stated recently in the interview process: “Understanding the political, social, and racial climate our nation is facing, it is important now more than ever that our faculty, staff, and students are equipped and ready to answer the call for unity and reconciliation. It is essential that we are intentionally working together to bring not only Kingdom leadership but cultural intelligence from a faith-based foundation.”
“As we searched for new leadership for diversity on campus, it became clear that God was leading Latrese Moffit to this position,” said Rod Reed, Chancellor of IWU-Marion. “She brings a wealth of experience in the area of diversity, and a love for God’s work in our Christian university. I’m so pleased she will be joining our leadership team.”
