The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) Board of Commissioners moved to grant accreditation to all nursing programs at Indiana Wesleyan University at a meeting in May. CCNE is the nation's premier accrediting body for undergraduate and graduate nursing degree programs.
Earning national accreditation from CCNE demonstrates that IWU's nursing programs meet the highest standards for nursing education and contribute to improving healthcare in the United States.
“This accreditation result is an affirmation of the School of Nursing’s hard work, professionalism, and investment in our students. We are extremely pleased and proud of them,” Stacy Hammons, Ph.D., university provost and chief academic officer, said.
To receive CCNE accreditation, the nursing programs were rigorously reviewed to ensure IWU
nursing students obtain the essential knowledge and education to be successful in the healthcare workforce. These programs include:
- Baccalaureate degree (BSN and RNBSN)
- Master's degree (MSN)
- Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
- Post-graduate APRN certificates: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
The accreditation action is effective as of November 13, 2019 and will last for ten years, extending to June 30, 2030.
“We are thankful for the hard work accomplished by so many departments that have resulted in this successful team outcome,” Barbara Ihrke, Ph.D., RN, vice president for academic affairs, said.
CCNE has accredited more than 1,800 baccalaureate, graduate, and nurse residency programs for continuous quality improvement since it began operations in 1998. The Commission is officially recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as an autonomous, national accrediting agency, contributing to the improvement of the public's health.
