Indiana Wesleyan University-National & Global has announced the School of Educational Leadership will launch a new online doctoral degree in August 2020.
The Doctor of Education (EdD) is designed to develop high-level leaders for the field of education, preparing students for careers in school district leadership, higher education faculty positions, education consulting, school psychology, government and non-profit education positions, and more.
The fully online program aims to simplify the doctoral degree path for students in the field of education by taking a more direct approach in the online classroom.
“In these types of programs, colleges often ask students to go find the knowledge or figure it out on their own, and then faculty tell them if they got there,” Reuben Rubio, associate professor for the School of Educational Leadership, said. “Instead, we take a more direct approach, providing students the key to the knowledge they need to succeed.”
The Doctor of Education program is the final step in a degree path students can complete entirely at IWU, starting with a bachelor’s degree. It has no residency requirements, unlike its competitors, and embeds the dissertation in the coursework as opposed to the dissertation following at the end of the program.
Students will learn to conduct high-quality research, integrate multicultural and global perspectives, polish their communication skills, and apply proven concepts to their research and work. This format also involves action research, which helps students solve existing problems within their current career contexts.
