Indiana Wesleyan University’s Master of Arts in School Counseling program recently ranked No. 6 in the nation and No. 1 in the Midwest for Best Online Master’s in School Counseling Degree Programs. The list was compiled by Intelligent.com, an online magazine dedicated to enabling students to make informed choices.
Intelligent evaluated 166 higher education institutions and compared 324 education programs. Each one was assessed on the basis of five factors: reputation, flexibility, affordability, faculty and coursework. Combining all five scores results in a program’s “Intelligent Score”, on a scale from 0 to 100. IWU's assessment as a top pick—defined as 'a program that is highly-regarded, economical, and equipped with the tools needed to teach their given degree online'—resulted in a 90.7 Intelligent Score.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, school counseling programs are especially important now as school counselor jobs are expected to rise 8% by 2028. Due to the increasing school-age population, it is predicted that there will be 27,200 new school counselor jobs.
IWU’s Master of Arts with a major in School Counseling program—which is offered online or on the residential campus—is designed to educate and prepare students for a career in School Counseling. Students learn to link counseling theory and techniques to Christ-like service through the integration of Christian principles as they are trained to be servant-leaders in the school setting. The School Counseling Program is nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
