Indiana Wesleyan University invites the public to attend the 2019 Society of World Changer events featuring Ernie Johnson Jr., one of sports’ most respected and loved personalities, on Tuesday, Feb. 26 and Wednesday, Feb. 27. See event details below:
Tuesday, Feb. 26
Open Forum – Integration of Faith & Sports, 6 p.m.
Join Johnson in an open forum setting as he discusses the integration of faith and sports. Following the forum there will be an opportunity for attendees to meet Johnson, get autographs and take photos with him. This event will take place in the Commons of the Barnes Student Center.
Wednesday, Feb. 27
Society of World Changers Convocation, 10-11 a.m.
During this special convocation, Johnson will be officially inducted into IWU’s Society of World Changers as its 17th inductee. The event will include music from the IWU Chorale, the presentation of a life-size bust of Johnson and a verbal address from the honoree. The convocation will take place in the Chapel Auditorium.
Johnson is a veteran sportscaster for Turner Sports. He is the host of Turner Sports NBA coverage and TNT’s Sports Emmy® Award-winning “Inside the NBA” studio show with analysts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal. He is also studio host for Turner and CBS’ NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship coverage as well as play-by-play announcer for TBS’ exclusive coverage of Major League Baseball and the PGA Championship.
Johnson became a Christian in 1997. He has been and continues to be outspoken about his faith in both his personal life, as well as his very public and successful professional life.
IWU established the Society of World Changers in 2003 to recognize role models who have exemplified the concept of being a world changer and whose lives can serve as an inspiration to future generations. Previous inductees include television producer and author Robert Briner, neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson, author Frank Peretti, Hobby Lobby CEO David Green, founder of Joni and Friends Joni Eareckson Tada, gospel musicians Bill and Gloria Gaither, former U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole and businessman John Maxwell. The most recent inductee, in 2018, was Cheryl Bachelder, a recognized business leader and former CEO of Popeyes.
